Charlie Laverne Sullivan, 92, of Du Quoin, passed away at 7:50 a.m., Thursday, August 14, 2008 at the Frankfort Care Center in West Frankfort.
Charlie had worked as a laborer for the Waltonville #3 Coal Mine.  He was a U.S. Army veteran.  He was a member of the Vergennes United Methodist Church and a member of the UMW of A.  Charlie loved talking to people and he never met a stranger.  In years past, he loved to hunt and fish.
He was born May 21, 1916, at Vergennes, the son of Charles L. and Caroline L. (Heiman) Sullivan.
He is survived by one daughter - Carolyn Sharp and husband Richard of West Frankfort, one son - Charles Leon Sullivan and wife of Wyoming, grandchildren - Kendra Murphy of Benton, a granddaughter in Wyoming, and Don Athen Wilburn and wife Shelley of West Frankfort, one step son - Tom Sharp and wife Diana of Batavia, sister-in-law - Hilda Cook of Du Quoin, four nieces - Georgena Cockrell of Tennessee, Shirley Bigham of Benton, Suzanne Baker of Benton, and Patsy Haney of Aurora, and one nephew - David Sullivan of Freeburg, seven great grandchildren, and one great great grandson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers - Jesse, Arthur, and Oren, one sister - Mary, loving companion - Bertha Wisley, and one grandson-in-law - Dan Murphy.
Funeral services will be at 4 p.m., Saturday, August 16, at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Rev. Ted Clark officiating.
Friends may call from 3 p.m. until the time of service on Saturday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.
Burial will be in the Creekpaum Cemetery at Vergennes.
Friends may make memorials to the Du Quoin Gold Plate and will be accepted at the funeral home.
